Since ancient times, stones have been closely associated with human life. In mythology, the goddess Nuwa used stones to mend the heavens; in Chinese gardens and architectures, rock formations were used to create a landscape; and on the desks of scholars, stones were placed for viewing and playing. From ancient times to the present day, many painters have enjoyed using stones in their paintings, not only to complement the scenery in a landscape painting, but also to stand alone as the main character in a painting.
In this workshop, instructor will introduce the characteristics in appreciating stone. Participants will learn the basic brushwork, inkwork and colouring techniques for painting stones. Participants will complete their work on a classical unadorned silk card and collected the ‘stone’ in their possession.
