Copying (lin mo) is an essential learning practice in the Chinese art community. It involves studying the techniques of ancient masters. Gessana Wong, the artist, discovered gaps in her understanding of historical art as she continued to develop the skills. The gaps sparked her fascination with lines, brushes and ink. This workshop aims to bridge the gaps by encouraging participants to use their imagination and personal reflections to fill in the missing pieces of history. By copying ancient works, participants will experience a deep contemplation of the artwork itself, gain a new perspective on improvisation and give the artwork a contemporary significance.
