Mr Lawrence Chan Wing-tat, master of the Dawentang Collection, and Mr Anthony Cheung Kee-wee, owner of the Huaihaitang Collection, are renowned for their Chinese porcelain collections. Thanks to their generous donations, the Hong Kong Palace Museum has now some of the most exquisite Chinese porcelains, mainly of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties. Many of their donations are currently on display in Gallery 3 and Gallery 6. In this talk, these two collectors will introduce the donations that they made to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and share the motivation, development and plans of their collections.
This talk accompanies the thematic exhibition “Passion for Collecting: Founding Donations to the Hong Kong Palace Museum” on view in Gallery 6 until 31 March 2025.
“The Hong Kong Palace Museum Collection and Collectors Talk Series” is designed to illuminate the fascinating stories behind the acts of collecting and creative journeys of the donors. Through engaging conversations between our HKPM experts and the donors, these talks will provide insight into the aesthetic, historical and cultural significance of the treasures within the collection.
