Betty Lo and Kenneth Chu, owners of the Mengdiexuan Collection, are internationally renowned collectors. They have donated nearly 1,400 ancient Chinese gold and silver objects to the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the years 2022 and 2024. These spectacular donations have helped the Museum to build one of the world's most comprehensive and important museum collections of ancient Chinese gold and silver objects. Research has always been the foundation of their collecting journey, spanning several decades and marked by close collaboration with esteemed scholars. In this talk, the two owners of the Mengdiexuan Collection will introduce their second major donation to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, sharing insights and revisiting stories behind these remarkable artefacts. They will also recount anecdotes from their interactions with museum experts and scholars throughout their collecting journey.
This talk accompanies the thematic exhibition “Passion for Collecting: Founding Donations to the Hong Kong Palace Museum” on view in Gallery 6 until March 31, 2025.
