Established in 1925, the Palace Museum is located in the Forbidden City, an imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties with a rich imperial collection. One of the world’s most prestigious museums, the Museum was shortlisted as a “Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level” in 1961 and was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. The Museum was rated as a 5A tourist attraction in 2007 and was among the first cultural institutions to be recognised as a National First-grade Museum in 2008.
Bearing witness to six hundred years of history and housing a collection that spans five thousand years of Chinese civilisation, the Palace Museum—a World Heritage Site, a museum, and a tourist destination—evokes a unique charm in multiple guises. In recent years, the Palace Museum has strived to reinvent itself by unveiling its cultural values and humanistic spirit by innovative means, promoting the excellence of traditional Chinese culture.
The talk will be led by Lou Wei, Executive Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, and will be followed by a dialogue between Dr Louis Ng, Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the speaker.
