The Qing imperial court's exquisite Set of Twelve Monthly Flower Cups was likely utilised as wine vessels during the Birthday of the Flowers rituals, an annual festivity observed in the second month of the lunar calendar. Each cup, distinguished by its delicate body and glaze, symbolises a distinct month and is adorned with a unique type of flowers—such as narcissus, peach blossoms, and peonies—each paired with an accompanying poetic inscription.
Join us for a rare opportunity to create a personal pair of ceramic cups, drawing inspiration from the lotus flower design of June. Under the guidance of a master craftsman, you will learn the age-old techniques of glazing, connecting the threads of everyday life with the rich tapestry of traditional Chinese art. The workshop promises a hands-on experience, allowing you to colour your own blue-and-white ceramic pieces.
