25 June: HKPhil Dim Sum Series: String Dialogue, by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra
With four strings and one soundbox, Western string instruments and the traditional Chinese pipa produce expressive sounds that enchant audiences across cultures. Join the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra string musicians and virtuoso guest pipa player, Gao Sijia, for a crossover performance marked by intimacy and fervour. Starting with two pieces composed for pipa and string quartet—Law Wing-fai's "Ink Spirit” and Tansy Tsai's “Suddenly”—the musical dialogue continues with short but distinctive pieces that bring out the elegance of string instruments. Closing the programme is the first movement of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2, which interweaves moments of drama, euphoria, and spontaneous dance.
