Unsung Heroes of Ink casts a light on the often-overlooked role of paper in Chinese ink painting. Beijing-based artists Liu Dan and Shao Fan explain how paper shapes their works. They collaborate with craftsmen in the remote Jing County, Anhui Province, who have been producing xuan paper with ancient methods. These craftsmen have spent a lifetime honing their skills and are without a doubt the “unsung heroes of ink”.
