Since the Yuan dynasty, seal engraving began to enter the literati's art world. Apart from playing a supporting role in painting and calligraphy, it gradually developed into an independent art medium.
The ancients regarded the seal carving of the Qin and Han dynasties as the orthodox styles. In this workshop, the tutor will begin with Han seals, introducing participants to the history of seal carving as well as the tools and materials involved. The tutor will then demonstrate different steps in the drafting and carving process. Participants will complete an auspicious white-character seal under guidance.
The workshop is recommended for participants aged 12 or above.
