Yuanming yuan (Garden of Perfect Brightness) was the principal imperial garden-palace where five Qing emperors resided and conducted state affairs. Its architecture, gardens, furnishings, collections, and various functional features have presented later generations with a vivid portrayal of a magnificently built and richly connotative royal garden. Through exploring paintings and historical records of the Yuanming yuan, this talk unfolds the dynamics within the Qing imperial palace and assembles a splendid illustration of the Qing dynasty.
This talk accompanies the special exhibition “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: YUAN MING YUAN—Art and Culture of an Imperial Garden-Palace”. The exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Palace Museum, and the Yuanmingyuan Administration Office of Haidian District of Beijing. It is solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
