30.3.2024 & 07.04.2024
11:00 am–11:45 am
Magnus Hall

Make your own musical instrument with recycled materials!

This family workshop will be hosted by music educator Kelvin Lau, who will introduce musical instruments found in historical Chinese paintings. You and your little ones will work together to create your own instruments and make music!

In this workshop, parents and children will:

  • learn about huqins depicted in historical Chinese paintings and the history of various types of Chinese stringed instruments;
  • create their own musical instruments with recycled materials and learn about the structure and timbre of instruments; and
  • decorate their instruments with traditional Chinese patterns and colours.

This activity is suitable for families with children aged 5 to 12. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. No additional registration is needed for the accompanying adult. Each pair of participants (one child and one adult) will receive one set of materials.

Participants are encouraged to bring your own tissue box (any size) to create the musical instrument.
