Distinguished guest sheds light on Palace Museum’s focus on innovation in recent years and shares blueprint for future cross-collaboration with HKPM

Since its official opening to the public in July 2022, the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) has dedicated itself to showcasing the finest objects from the Palace Museum, employing an innovative curatorial approach that incorporates new technologies and multimedia designs, with a vision to promote the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture while advancing dialogue among world civilisations.

As one of the highlights of the West Kowloon Cultural District Art Week, the HKPM was honoured to invite Lou Wei, Executive Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, to host the “Stories of China Lecture: Different Facets of the Palace Museum” public lecture at HKPM. Lou shared details of the unique characteristics and recent innovations at the Palace Museum from different perspectives, discussing how the Palace Museum has joined hands with the HKPM to realise the ambition of promoting the excellence of Chinese culture on a broader stage.

Lou Wei, Executive Deputy Director of the Palace Museum and member of the HKPM Board, said, “The Palace Museum houses a collection spanning 5,000 years of Chinese civilisation that carries splendid historical and cultural values. As a World Heritage Site and the largest ancient art and cultural museum in China, one of the Palace Museum’s visions is to become the ‘living room’ that fosters cultural dialogue between China and other world civilisations. We are eager to further strengthen collaboration between the two museums in the future, to enable Hong Kong and overseas audiences to appreciate the treasures of the Palace Museum – cultural relics that convey China’s splendid civilisation and its rich history and culture. Together we can transmit and promote the excellence of traditional Chinese culture and highlight the country’s fantastic stories to the world.”

Dr Louis Ng, Museum Director of the HKPM, said, “We are truly grateful for the staunch support from the Palace Museum, not only in lending more than 900 national treasures for display at the HKPM, but also co-curating outstanding thematic and special exhibitions and joining hands with us to promote Chinese culture to a global audience. We are especially grateful for Mr Lou Wei’s insightful sharing on the Palace Museum’s vision and strategy at today’s lecture and we look forward to strengthening our collaboration with the Palace Museum in areas such as exhibitions, research, heritage conservation, public education and talent training, with a vision of advancing cultural exchange among world civilisations, and supporting China’s work to preserve cultural heritage that will contribute to the further development of the international museum sector.”
