Bank of China (Hong Kong) gives full support to promote the Museum’s development and the inheritance of Chinese arts and culture

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM or the Museum) is pleased to announce that its strategic partner, Bank of China (Hong Kong) (“BOCHK”), will continue its generous support for the Museum’s work, particularly in areas such as cultural education, major exhibitions, and ticket sponsorship. Building on the BOCHK’s generous support as the sole sponsor of the “Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan” special exhibition and the HKPM’s performing arts series, “HKPM SHOWTIME!”, BOCHK will be the sole sponsor of “HKPM Showtime Carnival”. This new series offers a themed programme each season, featuring performances, demonstrations, workshops, talks, and more. “HKPM Showtime Carnival” demonstrates the HKPM’s mission to promote Chinese arts and culture both locally and globally, while contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, as outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

BOCHK solely sponsors “HKPM Showtime Carnival” Opening performance by Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble

Exclusively sponsored by BOCHK, “HKPM Showtime Carnival” was officially launched on 26 November 2023 (Sunday). Officiated by Dr Louis Ng, Museum Director of the HKPM, and Stephen Chan, Deputy Chief Executive of BOCHK, the opening event showcased a captivating performance of Gazing, Listening: The Sounds from Cultural Relics by the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble (HKGDE). Through a series of delightful tunes, the HKGDE celebrated the beauty of the Museum’s precious artefacts and brought them to life. The show also featured the premiere of With Dragons, a new composition for eight instruments inspired by the Sanxingdui culture. The HKGDE musicians also offered the “Ancient Dunhuang Musical Instrument Family Workshop”, introducing participants to the musical instruments, colours, and patterns found in the famous Dunhuang cave murals in Gansu Province.

Dr Louis Ng, Museum Director of the HKPM, said: “The HKPM is committed to presenting high-quality exhibitions alongside a broad range of educational activities and arts and cultural programmes, with a mission to integrate the rich culture of the Palace Museum and Chinese arts, culture and history into the performing arts. Our aim is to present stimulating multi-disciplinary learning and education programmes for the public as well as Mainland and overseas visitors, particularly the younger generation. We are grateful for Bank of China (Hong Kong)’s trust and support and look forward to working together to promote the inheritance of Chinese culture.”

Stephen Chan, Deputy Chief Executive of BOCHK, said, “As the strategic partner of the HKPM since 2022, BOCHK has actively participated in a series of cultural and artistic activities that benefit different sectors of the society, and organised our volunteer team to assist in different guided tours of the Museum, allowing Hong Kong citizens, especially young people to deepen their understanding of Chinese history and culture. Going forward, we will continue to join hands with various sectors to promote Chinese traditional culture and foster Hong Kong’s development into an art and cultural exchange centre.”

For “HKPM Showtime Carnival”, the Museum has joined hands with top-tier performing arts organisations and artists to present a series of events throughout the year, each with a unique theme. Featuring a range of activities, including performances, demonstrations, workshops, talks and more, the Carnival invites audiences to experience the HKPM’s exhibitions from different perspectives, exploring Chinese art, history and culture through diverse means. Programme information and registration details are available on the HKPM website.

BOCHK donates 20,000 HKPM special exhibition tickets to the underprivileged

To offer people from all walks of life a chance to visit the Museum and appreciate the treasures, BOCHK will sponsor 20,000 HKPM special exhibition tickets for the public. These tickets will be distributed to underprivileged groups through non-profit organisations. The HKPM’s special exhibition “Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan”, solely sponsored by BOCHK, is on display at Gallery 8 until 8 January 2024.
