Hong Kong Palace Museum Opening Admission and Traffic Arrangements

28.06.2022

The Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) will open its door to the public at 10am on 2 July 2022 (Saturday). The museum is pleased to announce that all 914 objects on loan from the Palace Museum have arrived at the HKPM, and the installation work for the nine galleries has been successfully completed. To support the museum’s opening, the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) will provide a complimentary (circular route) shuttle bus service which will run between M+, the HKPM and the west entrance of WKCD starting from 2 July. An additional franchised bus route will be diverted to cover Museum Drive in WKCD to enhance access for visitors to the HKPM.

Admission Arrangement:

As on-site ticket sales will not be available for the first three months after the HKPM’s opening, members of the public are advised to purchase tickets via the HKPM website, WKCD website or the WKCD app which will be redirected to the centralised ticketing platform. Members of the public can also purchase tickets through the online platforms of the museum’s designated ticketing partners, including Klook, China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited and Fliggy.

Visitors are recommended to allow sufficient time for transit and to arrive at the reserved timeslot as there will be security checks and other admission arrangements prior to entering the museum. Visitors who purchased tickets via the WKCD‘s centralised ticketing platform and ticketing partner Klook can present physical or electronic tickets at the museum’s main entrance on G/F for admission; whereas visitors who purchased tickets via China Travel Service (Hong Kong) Limited and Fliggy have to redeem physical tickets (with the confirmation email) at the ticket counters in the HKPM for admission. In accordance with the requirements promulgated by the Government under Cap.599F, all visitors must use their “LeaveHomeSafe” app to scan the venue’s QR code and present the “Vaccine Pass” QR code for scanning before entering the museum.

The HKPM would like to remind visitors to refrain from bringing items larger than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm to the museum. Visitors are welcome to take photos or videos for personal use; however, flash photography, selfie sticks, monopods and tripods are prohibited. Consumption of food and drinks in the galleries is not allowed.

The HKPM would like to remind visitors to present their Special Exhibition tickets for scanning upon entry to Gallery 8 and Gallery 9.

Transport Arrangement:

In anticipation of high visitor traffic during the initial opening phase, the museum encourages visitors to use public transportation where possible. Starting from 2 July, the District will provide a complimentary shuttle bus service travelling between M+, the HKPM and the west entrance of the District. The shuttle bus will operate daily from 10am to 7pm (circular route departing every 15 mins) to facilitate visitors’ journeys within the District. Insofar as public transport is concerned, in addition to the existing KMB route no. 296D (Sheung Tak - Kowloon Station), starting from 2 July, Citybus cross-harbour route no. 973 (Tsim Sha Tsui Mody Road - Stanley Village) will also stop at Museum Drive and Art Park respectively and HKPM visitors can drop off at the Museum Drive stop. Visitors can also take the green minibuses departing from MTR Kowloon Station to reach HKPM.

Retail and dining outlets

The dining area of HKPM is located outside the museum on LG/F. Three full-service restaurants, namely Cupping Room, Jin Ya Ju Noodle Bar and Creps & Bakes, provide both indoor and outdoor seating that enable visitors to enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of the harbour. All three restaurants will open progressively from late June.

In addition, a pop-up kiosk located at the LG/F will feature creative HKPM-branded lifestyle products, including tote bags, mugs, stationery, as well as HKPM publications, Chinese art books and storybooks. The HKPM Shop, located at the G/F of the museum, is expected to open in Q4 2022.

Ticket holders are encouraged to read the visitor information to plan their journey in advance before visiting the HKPM.
